For photo realistic walk-thrus, the geometry and texture of the building facades has to be acquired from near range. In order to capture this information rapidly, we have created a real time system that is mounted on a truck, which moves on public roads under normal traffic conditions and normal speed.
2D laser scanner and a digital camera are linked to high-end PC and additional electronics performing a complex timing synchronization. I developed real time software in order to handle the incoming data stream of more than 80 Mbit/s.
